THE ARTIST
Ēlena Ēto lives and works in Germany. She always had a strong desire for transformation and creation. After her design studies, she devoted herself to abstract and contemporary art. In her long travels through the South – especially through the Caribbean, South America and Africa – an intimate and unique visual vocabulary was founded, which she uses and elaborates contiously. Particularly in relation to the abstract representation of nature and the elements. Her work reflects both her connection to nature and her appreciation for natural materials. The focus is on abstract paintings for which she uses paper, metals, stone flours homemade paints and antique textiles as her preferred media. She also makes sculptural vessels using a mixture of paper, ceramics and antique linen. The texture and distinctive depth of her works is achieved through a variety of materials in countless layers, representing the constant transformation of reality.
Her work is minimalist at its core, while being in constant confrontation with perfection. The imperfect work, intentionally aged, stands in contrast to the pursuit of the norm. Despite the wide scope for interpretation that abstract art holds, the special calm that emanates from her works creates a deep connection between the viewers and the artist. Her works can be found in private and public collections.
